A vase inspired by hanafuda, traditional Japanese playing cards. Faint, nostalgic motifs reimagined as minimal 3D forms—capturing the essence of Japan’s seasonal landscapes. Unglazed clay brings out the raw texture and warmth of the material. The hanafuda-style frame can be hung on the wall, adding depth and quiet memory to any space.
This is my first collection, themed "It's not sophisticated, but it has a certain charm." The Japanese word "yabottai" ( 野暮ったい ) often carries a negative connotation, but I've chosen to reinterpret it positively, transforming it into something endearing. While allowing a hint of human touch, I embrace the quirky nuance that draws people in, even if it isn't stylish in the conventional sense. I blend simple yet catchy forms with the atmosphere created by materials and textures, presenting them as a hybrid of functional furniture, such as chairs and cabinets, and artistic objects.
