This is a “Smiley”, life-sized wood carving piece, made from a 55 cm Katsura log. The extreme weight of the natural undried log, which contained excessive moisture, was challenging to install on the 2nd floor as it was heavier than we had imagined. It was important to display it here to give it as large a presence as possible. The wood contains natural white and reddish color markings around the neck area, giving the impression that the Smiley figure is wearing a scarf,
making it a charm point of this piece. As this piece gradually dries, we look forward to watching the cracks form as part of the natural aging process.
